“ Is it edible?” Tom asked.

“ Of course, It’s made of radish.” Lin answered.

“ It’s amazing!” Tom tasted the “water lily”, and said“It looks like a real water lily.”

“ This is one kind of Chinese art——Food Sculpture.” Lin introduced to Tom.

“ Can you tell me more about it?” Tom says. He looked very interested.

“ Food Sculpture can date back to the Spring and Autumn Period, and expanded in the history. Its finished products mainly include Flowers, birds, fish, insects and various Chinese style buildings .” Lin said.

“ What does it used to carve?”  Tom was more interested.

“ It commonly uses two categories of foods, one is fine texture, firm and crispy, pure color roots, stems, leaves, melon, fruit and other vegetables. Other is both edible, but also for viewing cooked food such as egg products. But the most common is the former.”

“ That how can……” Tom continued asking, but he was disturbed by Lin. Lin waved his hands and said: “ No.No.No.I’m not proficient in this, I think we can ask the chef. Let’s go to find the chef.”

Then, Tom and Lin visited the chef and asked him about food sculpture detailedly. They knew that chefs’ carving technique is based on their experience and gradual improvements. There is not short time cut. In order to learn this art, on the one hand they have to practice using carve knife; on the other hand, they also need a certain artistic attainment, learning some knowledge of the composition, and the ability to observe and control the expression of the image. the constant practice and lessons are acquired, so that improve in their daily lives, in order to truly master this skill. Tom also watched the chief carving the water lily and learned it. The chief held a radish, and cut it with a carve knife quickly. A little minutes later, a “ water lily” appeared with a glimpse.

“ It’s so quick and difficult .” Tom shouted.

“ It’s always. Food Sculpture need practice more and more. But if you are interested in it, I advice you to do some easy and creative carves. Such as use cherry tomatoes to create rabbits.” The chief encouraged Tom.

“ It sounds great. Can you tell us?” Tom asked excitedly.

Sheffield-mural-I once heard a story about a town, Sheffield in Australia, which was a relatively backward area. However, the residents of Sheffield revitalized their homeland by Art. After discussing how to reform and innovation, at last some residents proposed to develop the tourism in order to attract more people to come. An inventive style of Art—Draw mural painting came up later. With the remarkable improvement and great effort, the town has realized its blueprint. The murals attract an estimated 200,000 people to the town annually. What a big change! Wait, wait, it’s not the only case to run across.

ChongQing HuangjuepingHuangjueping graffiti street is located in Chongqing City, is the Chinese and even the world’s largest graffiti art works. Chongqing graffiti art street is attracting more and more people to come. This street has become the first to Chinese graffiti art. Huangjueping graffiti art also takes on a new aspect, has become a new place for tourism in Chongqing. It is understood, graffiti street is to promote an innovative initiative of cultural and creative industries in Chongqing City. At that time the Huangjueping has the appearance of many old buildings are dilapidated, in urgent need of transformation, then the government boldly and Academy of Fine Arts artists after several times to discuss, finally determined to graffiti this form as a retrofitting scheme on this area of appearance. All of this really make a great difference. A tourist city must has something related to Art, or it seems less vigor, passion and artistic atmosphere.

Street Art more or less gives the city visual shock, a feel of freedom and injected new vitality and unique elements. If you are into Street Arts, there are some good place you can visit. First , The Berlin wall remains colorful graffiti that known around the world. In 20 years, East Gallery gradually becomes one of the most popular tourist attractions in Berlin. Second, The National People’s Congress graffiti wall located at people’s University in Haidian District Road, which is the largest, the largest area of a graffiti wall. In November 12th, after the Olympic countdown 1000 days, the wall was named “Beijing wall”.

ARTMaybe you can run across them next time.  And there is other matter I want to suggest, if we happen to fall in love with two interesting things, maybe we should try to find a way to let them run across and combine them in order to get full use of both and then people will see something unexpected. Just like the Street Arts and tourism. No soul, No spirit, the city will be dying . Street Art brings a new spirit to the city, which will sure helps the development of tourism. I strongly recommend that city should welcome Outdoor art behavior. Do you support me? Let some beautiful run across.

A vivid dream of polka dots

As an ordinary person, the world of art seems to be very far from our daily life. A lot of people lack of interest of art exhibition, perhaps it is because there is a gap between artists and us. It is likely that to understand the meaning of many art works is difficult for us. However, Yayoi Kusama exhibition a boom, let many people rarely picked up interest in art, trying to feel the real world of art. Why do so many people so keen on the Yayoi Kusama’s work, hope that by this article to explore.

Following the recent Dior exhibition, ‘A dream I dreamed’ was another popular exhibition in Shanghai. People interested in Dior exhibition could be well understood, Dior is a well-known brand name all over the world, whether to buy or not to buy it, people all want to go to see her style. Or the exhibition of Monet, who is the world famous artists, who do not want to watch the painting by their own eyes? However, before the exhibition, the audience knows nothing about Yayoi Kusama at all. It is hard to deny that its boom seems to be kind of weird.

People first impression of this strange exhibition is “dot”. It was likely that her world is form by dots, the interpretation way of the world aroused my interest, and at least, it is an important reason why I went to see the exhibition. I am unable to hold myself back to know, using dots to interpretation her own world, what she really want to express? How did she use the complicated pattern to express her own mind? The answer of this question must be answer by myself after I watching it. I guess there are many fans of polka dots like me, deeply attracted by the impression of it. We almost never see any exhibition give simple but strong impression to the audience like ‘I have a dream’ before. It is common that the posters of the exhibition cannot find any clues of it. However, her works is too strong, can let a person immediately familiar with her style. Probably because the exhibition style approaches to daily life, Yayoi Kusama gives us a hint that we can understand her.

It is worth mention that, there is a psychological study popular in recent years. Many people have claimed to be intensive phobia, seeing intensive things makes them could not help sick. These people can not accept anything intensive, but the funny thing is, there are a lot of intensive phobia patients are also eager to see the Yayoi Kusama exhibition. This strange mood somewhat dumbfounding people, even many people call it the “intensive fear exhibition”.

However, many people do not know the story behind. Kusama fears about trauma since her childhood and she had lived in New York for a long time, which was dominated by male powers. However, her works was not to show what she can see in the world. Kusama created thousands of dots and net patterns to conquer her fear towards the life, and by the works she turned her horror into something funny and familiar. According to her biography, she said “in any case, I was terrified of sex, and of the phallus. My fear was of the hide-in-the-closed-trembling variety. And it was precisely because of this that I made tons and tons of these shapes. Creating them, putting myself right in the midst of the horror, helped me to heal the wounds in my heart and, little by little, escape the fear. Each day I would produce forms that I gradually turned the horror into something familiar.” That may give people who are fears of intensive deeply thought about how to conquer fears. It is possibly that many people believe that the feeling of familiar can heal their afraid of something so they came to the exhibition and try to be relax and enjoy.

Chasing The Spring In Monet’s Garden—An Art Exhibition

“Besides gardening and painting, I don’t know a thing”.——Monet

Lately there’s an art exhibition called “Master of Impression—Claude Monet” held in Shanghai, which contents most of Monet’s famous artworks like “Water Lilies”, “Wine of Bordeaux” and “House of Parliament” . Additionally some of  his collections and personal belongings are also on display.

By: Zhang Yao  110909221  Class 2

This art exhibition started at 8 March in K11 Art Space and it will last until 15 June. All the exhibits are provided by Marmottan Monet Museum, 52 paintings are divided into five themes, named as “Monet’s Friends”, “Monet’s Caricatures ”,  “Monet’s Voyage”, “Monet’s Garden”, “Monet’s Ultimate” based on a timeline of Monet’s life, displayed in two showrooms. The first showroom mainly includes his earlier works and landscape paintings, can be considered as a preparation for his Garden works. The second one mostly contains his later works created in Giverny when Monet reached the peak of his career, with flowers and water as the subjects. At the first weekend it has attracted more than 6,000 art lovers. The set decorator Margo thinks that Monet’s art has the power to make people slow down and feel it, approach it.

In the first part you can see some paintings from other impressionism masters. Like Eugene Boudin, Monet’s first teacher on oil painting, his “La Plage De Trouville” is on show. Also one of Renoir’s most famous paintings “Blonde Node” and some other portraits. These paintings used to be Monet’s private collections and also, serve as witness to his friendship. The second part is kind of interesting. People once knew Monet well for his caricatures, and the most famous one is “Wine of Bordeaux” showed on this exhibition. Additionally, Monet’s palette, pipe and glasses, all these personal belongings make this display area more meaningful. The third part, however, is consist of 14 landscape paintings created during his tour. This period plays an essential role in Monet’s painting career, he painted the same scene over and over in various lights and different times. In that, most of his paintings in this period are known to the world.

One part that really impressive in this exhibition is the series of water-lily and the Japanese bridge paintings created in Monet’s old age, his most depressed period. Monet spent the rest of his life at Giverny and his garden seems to bring a great inspiration. Especially the series of “The Japanese Bridge” on show. You can see him played with light and shade, changed canvas with the changes of light. So the cross of light and shade created flexible tone on these paintings. With the falling of eyesight, the use of color in Monet’s paintings are also getting deeper and bluer, leading to a unique style on his works.

The most interesting thing is,  people always can not recognize the motive of his bridge paintings immediately,  but after they look at the name and observe it again, people start to marvel at how amazing they are. Even you are familiar with artworks in some other way,  you may still experience a number of surprises and feel touched at the moment you facing them. So while the sun is shining,  while the spring breeze blowing,  it is time to find the beauty in Monet’s garden,  feel the art in your soul.

Town of Murals

Sheffield in Australia was a relatively backward area.

Inspired by the story of Chemainus, a small Canadian town that had through mural art, rescued itself from ruin, the Kentish Association for Tourism (KAT) worked valiantly on the vision to combine the arts and tourism to revive and reinvent the town of Sheffield.
Sheffield has become a major tourist attraction due to it being promoted as a “Town of Murals”,[5] based upon the instrumental contributions of the Kentish Association for Tourism (currently known as Sheffield Inc) and local tourism pioneer Brian Inder.
The first town mural was painted in Sheffield in December 1986. Since then over 60 murals depicting the area’s rich history and beautiful natural scenery are painted on walls scattered throughout the town and buildings along the roadside. The murals attract an estimated 200,000 people to the town annually.
In the heart of Sheffield, there are a number of studios open to the public where visitors can watch the artists as they do their work. There are artists of every discipline, including photography, fine art, glass, woodcraft, pottery, ceramics and specialised crafts.[8]
The International Mural Fest art competition has been held annually since 2003 and returns in April each year. A poem is selected which the artists use as their inspiration. After each competition the 9 finalist murals remain on display at Mural Park for approximately 12 months until the next competition.[9] In 2012, an interactive mural and workshops were added to the artistic activities of the festival for the Mural Fest 10th anniversary celebrations.

Murals can be a relatively effective tool of social emancipation or achieving a political goal. Murals have sometimes been created against the law, or have been commissioned by local bars and coffeeshops. Often, the visual effects are an enticement to attract public attention to social issues. State-sponsored public art expressions, particularly murals, are often used by totalitaruan regimes as a tool of mass-control and propaganda. However, despite the propagandist character of that works, some of them still have an artistic value.
Murals can have a dramatic impact whether consciously or subconsciously on the attitudes of passers by, when they are added to areas where people live and work. It can also be argued that the presence of large, public murals can add aesthetic improvement to the daily lives of residents or that of employees at a corporate venue.

Other world-famous murals can be found in Mexico, New York, Philadelphia, Belfast, Derry, Los Angeles, Nicaragua, Cuba and in India.
